What is a Hernia?

Hernia is a disease that occurs when an internal organ of the body projects out from the area where it should be. In common, when talking about hernia, people refer to an Abdominal Hernia. In this case, an organ breaches the abdominal wall and falls into the testicles area. However, there are many other types of hernia as well.

Hernia occurs not only in men, but also in women. In majority, surgery would be needed to treat hernia. The surgical methods differ according to the type and stage of hernia.

What causes a Hernia?

Adbominal Hernia is considered to be the most common type of hernia. Our abdominal wall has potential areas of weakness which may develop over time due to various reasons. When the weakness develops into a tear, the organ that is contained in that part comes out of the wall, thereby causing a hernia. There are several factors that weaken the vulnerable parts of abdominal wall. A few among those are:

Symptoms of Abdominal Hernia

The symptoms of abdominal hernia commonly includes:

  • Development of a bulge under the skin in the abdomen
  • Pain when the abdomen is stressed (weight-lifting, coughing, etc.)
  • Pain during a bowel movement from straining
  • Pain after standing or sitting for a long while

This is not an exhaustive list of symptoms, and the pain may vary from a dull and continuous pain to a sharp pain. If the pain is sober or you find any redspot on the skin in the area affected by hernia, then it's better to consult the doctor without a second thought.

Surgimesh Technology

Traditionally, hernia was treated by stretching the nearby tissues around the herniated area, and stitching them together to cover the tear caused by hernia. Becuase of this, the tissues were weakened again and the rate of recurrence of hernia was pretty higher.

Eventually the process of treating hernia improved with new inventions one of which is a mesh. This mesh is placed across the tear and fixed with the surrounding tissues, thus reducing the chances to stretch the tissues.

The next generation mesh from  Surgimesh allows surgeons to repair body tissue holes created by herniated organs. The non-woven polypropylene material makes it possible for surgeons to reinforce tissue walls so that they stay secure after treatment. This biomaterial also helps patients recover faster with less post-operation discomfort.

SURGIMESH Products

Three of Surgimesh’s most popular products include the Easy Plug Patch System, Non-barrier Mesh WN, and Barrier Mesh XB. All of these products are made from non-woven polypropylene mesh, the top biomaterial choice of hernia surgeons, and are designed to provide a specific benefit for each hernia patient.

Easy Plug Patch System

The Easy Plug Patch System is designed for the needs of inguinal hernia repair. The product comes in a variety of key configurations. The non-woven polypropylene biomaterial decreases the patient’s post-op pain by as much as 90 percent when compared to knitted polypropylene.

Non-Barrier Mesh WN

Inguinal and open ventral hernia treatment will benefit from Surgimesh’s non-barrier mesh, Surgimesh WN. This product easily conforms to difficult contours during surgery, which allows doctors to reinforce tissues with more stability and reduce patient discomfort. This option also experiences a minimal amount of shrinkage to improve long-term results.

Barrier Mesh XB

Surgimesh XB is a barrier mesh that combines non-woven polypropylene with non-porous silicone. This allows the mesh to integrate easily into the body’s tissue, prevent visceral adhesion formation, and reduce the chance of seroma formation.

Surgimesh Key Configurations

Surgimesh products come in a variety of key configurations that are designed to meet the specific needs of each patient. Surgeons who are unsure of which product or key configuration will benefit their patients most can consult Surgimesh Information Site for more details.
